Everyday English Conversation

Justin: Hey Jason, have you taken my pencil?
Jason: Ah yes! Sorry, forgot to inform you.
Justin: And even to return it back (smiles). Thanks. By the way, are you done preparing for your papers? As you see, you don’t have much time left.
Jason: Yeah, I know and I am not able to cope with it. I think I need your help.
Justin: I’m here. Tell me. What’s wrong?
Jason: Do you have enough time?
Justin: Yes, of course. I do.
Jason: I thought you are studying for your examination that commences tomorrow, aren’t you?
Justin: Yes, and I am almost done with the preparation. You tell me, where do you need my assistance?
Jason: I am finding difficulty in solving a Math sum. And this is it.
Justin: Okay. Uh… It’s a multiplication. Please apply this multiplication formula and you’ll get the answer.
Jason: It’s still not helping me. Maybe I should ask Dad then. He’ll explain me better.
Justin: What’s wrong with the formula I asked you to use?
Jason: Nothing as such but I am more comfortable with Dad’s way of teaching.
Justin: In that case, you shouldn’t have come to me in the first place.
Jason: What exactly do you mean?
Justin: If you are comfortable with Dad’s way of teaching then you should approach him whenever you have a doubt in Math. If you approach multiple people, then your concepts will never be clear.
Jason: That’s not making sense to me. You will need to elaborate more on that.
Justin: Look. Each person has a different approach towards teaching. Math is a subject you should especially learn from one person at least till your basics are clear.
Jason: And is this a thumb rule?
Justin: You should follow it if you aren’t.

Jason: Okay, now I get you. But I have one more question.
Justin: What is it?
Jason: Out of the total 8 subjects, which one should I pick up first for preparation?
Justin: Well, there are two things to consider when you are making this decision.
Jason: And what are they?
Justin: Firstly, you need to find the subject that has more study holidays before appearing for it. And secondly the subject which you find hard to grasp.
Jason: So, according to me, Math is quite hard and it has only 1 day to practice before the paper. I should start with that, then.
Justin: Exactly! Moreover, the subjects that need only few hours to revise should be touched only the day before you are going to write them.
Jason: Which means right now all my focus should be on the subjects in which I don’t fair well, right?
Justin: You got it.
Jason: Thanks Justin, you have really sorted this out.
Justin: You’re most welcome. Now, go continue studying. And yeah, one more thing.
Jason: What is it?
Justin: Try to get all your doubts cleared by me today itself. Once my examination begins, I might not have time to attend you.
Jason: As you say.
Justin: So, enough of talking now. Back to work (smiles)
Jason: Sure.
